The Arctic Rider tackles one of the world’s most dangerous roads for Tiny Lives

Gordon Stuart, a keen motorcyclist and dedicated supporter of Tiny Lives, will be taking on his biggest challenge yet as he heads to Northern Alaska  in June to travel one of the most dangerous roads in the world – the Dalton Highway.

Gordon began his fundraising journey in 2011, with a motorbike ride to the Arctic Circle that unfortunately ended with a bang (quite literally!) when a crash forced him to abandon the challenge earlier than planned. Since then, Gordon has made it his mission to compete a host of charity motorcycle challenges, including the ‘Iron Butt’ challenge in 2016, riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 18 hours raising over £1,800 for Tiny Lives Trust.

For this latest challenge he will ride to the top of Alaska via the notorious Dalton Highway, which is a lonely gravel and dirt road with only three very small towns along the way. The Dalton Highway also has the longest stretch of serviceless road in North America, it has 240 miles with no petrol stations, restaurants, hotels, or any other basic services. It’s expected that the ride will take him around 10 days to complete.

It’s a very dangerous route, and Gordon is preparing thoroughly to ensure he is fully equipped to tackle this feat. Along the way he’ll face isolation, tricky terrain, very cold weather and he could even run into some of the animals that prowl the Highway, including bears and moose!

Tiny Lives holds special meaning for Gordon, as his daughter Islay was born prematurely in 2014 and spent time at the Special Care Baby Unit. He will also be raising funds for Cerebra, in honour of the care received by his little brother Robbie during his childhood. Robbie also recently raised £130 for Tiny Lives with a raffle at his 21st birthday party, so a big thank you to him too!

Before his expedition, Gordon is holding an online raffle to raise even more money for Tiny Lives. He will also be at the ASDA Gosforth bag pack on Saturday 7 April to raise funds, along with his motorbike!
