Theo Alexander’s Story
In loving memory of Theo Alexander
Hi I’m Jamie Alexander Leslie-Love, others may know me as “Beaker”.
In July 2013 my wife, Joanna (“JoJo”), and I discovered that we were expecting our first child. Upon hearing the news our hearts filled with excitement and were so thrilled to have our own little partner in crime to love and explore life with.
Sadly, on 25th January 2014 we discovered that our baby was very ill and Joanna needed to have an emergency cesarean to give baby the best chance of survival. At 3:41pm in the RVI Newcastle our baby boy Theo Alexander was born.
Theo was still very poorly and was immediately taken into the Specialist Baby Care Unit to undergo a number of life saving procedures. Our brave baby boy battled for 17 hours with his Mam and Dad by his side.
On January 26th 2014 at 7am our little boy lost his battle and sadly passed away in his Mam and Dad’s arms.
Theo is now, and always will be, our little baby boy. We take immense pride in having such a brave and beautiful son.
This, the most tragic of all life’s cruelties, was eased by the work of all the Specialist Care staff at the RVI. Their support and dedication to helping Theo was truly incredible.
The Tiny Lives Campaign is key to caring for and supporting babies just like our Theo and their parents. The charity relies on donations to keep providing this standard of care.
Jamie and Joanna chose to fundraise for Tiny Lives…
“We don’t want another family to have to go through what we have, but inevitably there will be a family which will. We want to try and help that family take their baby home with them.”
On 1st September 2015 Jamie cycled from Lands End (South West tip of England) to John O’Groats (North East tip of Scotland). A journey taking 13 days on a push bike and covering well over a 1000 miles on unforgiving terrain.
